Supply of Rare Earth Phosphor Materials for LED Manufacturing – Kyoto, Japan
Client Background
A Japanese electronic materials company based in Kyoto, specializing in the development and supply of phosphor compounds for LED manufacturers. Their clients include several global brands producing LED chips for lighting, display, and automotive applications. In early 2023, the client sought a new supplier of europium and terbium-based rare earth oxides to improve color rendering and reduce energy consumption in high-efficiency LED products.
Project Scope
Hongbang Technology was selected to provide high-purity europium oxide (Eu₂O₃) and terbium oxide (Tb₄O₇) for use in red and green phosphor synthesis. The project involved batch stability, particle size control, and purity standards tailored to the client’s LED production line.
Technical Deliverables
- Materials Supplied:
- Europium Oxide (Eu₂O₃), purity ≥ 99.995%
- Terbium Oxide (Tb₄O₇), purity ≥ 99.99%
- Particle Size Distribution: D90 ≤ 3μm, designed for uniform dispersion in phosphor matrices
- Color Stability: Final phosphor output achieved >92% color retention over 10,000-hour simulated burn-in test
- Packaging: Moisture-controlled and vacuum-sealed in 10kg high-barrier composite drums
Implementation Timeline
- Q1 2023: Sample qualification and laboratory blending trials by the client’s R&D team
- Q2 2023: Initial 300 kg bulk order for integration into
- Q4 2023 – 2024: Expanded annual supply agreement; monthly volume forecast: 500–800 kg
Outcome & Impact
- The materials met target criteria for high CRI (Color Rendering Index) LED products, particularly in red-green spectral balance
- Client reported a 15% improvement in luminous efficacy and reduced variance in large-batch coating processes
- Hongbang was added to the client’s Tier-1 vendor list and included in quarterly joint technical reviews for future phosphor material optimization
